StumptheSpread made over 400 units (76.5 W%) last season on NHL bets and ended the playoffs last year on a 13-0 tear including a 20 unit playoff winner.

Sleepers
The New York Islanders are a team we look to show us great improvement. They're a young team and with center John Tavares, left winger Matt Moulson, and right winger Michael Grabner, they should have plenty of offense to put some numbers on the board. Not to mention they were 56-26 against the puck line last year. We would recommend an OVER bet on the 33.5 season win total or an OVER 81.5 total season points.

The New York Rangers looked exhilarating at times last year and then at other times they looked downright awful. New York signed center Brad Richards to a 9 year 60 million dollar contract. The addition of Richards should give this underachieving team a different feel this season and we look for him to complement line mate Marian Gaborik nicely. Henrik Luhdqvist also looks primed for a nice season. The Rangers will make the playoffs again this season.

The Buffalo Sabres have developed themselves nicely over the past year or two. They've put together a roster that shows depth on the forward side. Tyler Myers and newly acquired Christian Ehroff should hold it down on the defensive side. There is no worries in All-Star goalie Ryan Miller and if the Sabres can stay healthy they have a legitimate shot of contending with the Washington Capitals for the top of the Eastern Conference.

Failures
The New Jersey Devils went 29-53 against the puckline last season and they're cycling in another head coach in Pete DeBoer this year. We expect them to struggle out of the gate this season and for Ilya Kovalchuck to put together another disappointing season. Zach Parise will probably get dealt sometime this season and the Devils will get some young prospects for rebuilding.

The Philadelphia Flyers lost two big forwards in Jeff Carter and Mike Richards over the off season. Jaromir Jagr will try to fill their void but he is still a question mark. Yes, he put up 6 points in 3 games during pre-season however he had not faced NHL competition in 3 years and we expect him to only get about 40 to 50 points this season. Developing chemistry will be crucial for the Flyers and we expect them to have a slow start. The Flyers will improve down the stretch though.
